Rap Genius Lines of the Week From Joe Budden, XV, Joell Ortiz, Ras Kass & Supernatural
Rap Genius is supplying The BoomBox with the top lyrics from the week and serving a meaning behind the raps in the process. Hip-hop made headlines, though sadly not for anything musical. The Drake and Chris Brown spat was the top story in tons of news outlets, with the associated feverish speculation -- was it over Rihanna? If not, then what? We can say with confidence that this is the first time we've ever been on Drake's side, about a rap beef or pretty much anything else.
In addition to all the tabloid headlines, though, some great music came out this week. Supernatural appeared on Peter Rosenberg's Hot 97 radio show only a week or so after the controversy over Nicki Minaj's set, or lack thereof, at Summer Jam 2012. Since Supernat was on the air with the man who started the whole mess, Peter Rosenberg, he delivered a defense of the DJ's conduct. While Supernat's brief in-favor-of-the-defense lyrics are not particularly substantial, it is actually improvised, and that on-the-fly cleverness, which Supernatural does better than pretty much anyone else alive, moves this lyric onto our list.
