Amy Winehouse Foundation to Honor Tony Bennett at Inspiration Awards in October
When Amy Winehouse died in July 2011, Tony Bennett was among those to pay tribute, calling her "an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist." The late singer's family is equally fond of the legendary crooner, and come October, when the Amy Winehouse Foundation holds its first annual Amy Winehouse Inspiration Awards and Gala in New York City, Bennett will be among those honored, Rolling Stone reports.
Bennett recorded the tune "Body & Soul" with Winehouse for his Duets II collection, and the iconic singer donated proceeds from the song to the foundation, which Winehouse's parents launched following her death. While the charity's U.K. branch has focused its efforts on children's hospices, raising more than a million pounds, the U.S. arm is devoted to after-school programs and music therapy for young people.
The gala is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2012, at the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria.
