For Rufus Wainwright's upcoming "Live From the Artists Den" episode, the singer-songwriter wanted to pay tribute to his late mother, Kate McGarrigle. He decided to film his 22-song set at New York City's beautiful Church of the Ascension, and now Spinner is proud to premiere a clip of him performing "Jericho," a song off his latest album, Out of the Game.
"This is perhaps the most visceral song on the album," Wainwright tells Spinner. "There's a kind of intensity and focus that reminds me of certain Elton John or Fleetwood Mac songs, these uptempo numbers that are at the same time incredibly emotional and war-like, which is exciting but also a little scary. It's a very private song, about a person being a city, and that city being Jericho. It's a biblical mystery."
Wainwright's full performance, which also features an appearance by Mark Ronson, will appear on PBS sometime this fall. Watch the video below and check out the Artists Den's official website for more information on the air date.
