Pete Doherty has had a rough couple of years, but there is one bright spot in his life: The 32-year-old rocker, addict and ex-con is a father again. According to an explosive interview with The Independent, the former Libertines singer impregnated South African model Lindi Hingston after a one-night stand.
Pictures of Doherty's baby daughter Aisling were revealed in the South African Times earlier this week after Hingston sold them.
"I'm really surprised she's done that [talked to a newspaper]. The little girl was two months premature. I said I'd try to be there for the birth. You know what, I don't want to talk about that," Doherty told The Independent's Matilda Battersby.
Not only did Doherty reveal his new-found fatherhood, he also showed off his blood paintings. Yes, blood paintings. Made with his own blood. In a new exhibit, the now-painter is showing off his brushstrokes, detailed in swathes of human blood, splattered about by a syringe. The show will debut next week at London's Cob Gallery and also features a macabre work from Amy Winehouse.
On the instruction of Doherty, the late 'Rehab' singer completed a small self-portrait in her own blood. "She was on the phone to her dad when she did that," Doherty revealed. "She said, 'Dad, I'm with Pete and he's making me draw with my blood!' He didn't like me much, her dad."
Head over to The Independent to read the full interview for more on how Pete cut himself on a crack pipe, decided to stop injecting heroin and, while in jail, had a run-in with an inmate who wanted to stick a fork in a very uncomfortable place on Doherty's body.
