'Rocker Clogger' Girl Makes a Viral Splash by Stomping to the Cure, Johnny Cash
She calls herself the "Rocker Clogger." Somewhere in Central Georgia, this 17-year-old with a penchant for the Cure, Siousxie and the Banshees, Adam Ant and David Bowie is clog-dancing her heart out to hits of yore. We love viral videos, so, naturally, we caught up with the teenage YouTube sensation to talk '80s music and, of course, clogging.
Her dad built the wooden stage in the grassy backyard, and her mom helps her with the outfits -- a theatrical mix of playful, dark glam and young, DIY rocker chic. The rest -- the choreography, the energy, the "I Gotta Be Me" attitude, the love of music -- that's all Rocker Clogger. Check out some of her videos below.
Clogging to the Cure
"It's important for a song to have a strong beat to clog to," Clogger Girl tells Spinner about her song-selection technique. "I choose songs I love and I love '80s music mostly." She choreographs the routines beforehand, but insists that she's not a professional dancer. She's doing this for fun -- and lots of it!
She's also a bit of a retrophile: "Current music has no character, no good beats. They just don't attract me." She's currently working on a routine for Tears for Fears' 'Mad World.' Her only audience is on YouTube. Her dream? "The Rockettes! I enjoy going to musicals at local theaters. I am now taking voice lessons because I would love to be a well-rounded thespian. Hopefully, when I go to college, I can get into theater." Let's give the girl some props!
