Canadian Summer Festival Guide 2011 -- May
Long Live the Queen
Halifax, May 19-22
A very credible counterpart and complement to October's Halifax Pop Explosion, Long Live the Queen is a music (and arts) festival which is organized by the artists themselves. Situated around a few square blocks in the city's North End, Long Live the Queen started last year with approximately 40 performers such as Julie Doiron and the Luyas. Literary readings, comedy performances and even yard sales make up unique portions of the four-day Victoria Day long weekend event.
Can't Miss Acts:
Toronto rock outfit Hooded Fang issued their debut self-titled last October and have continued to garner praise among fans and critics. Led by main songwriter Daniel Lee, the group spent recent tours with the Rural Alberta Advantage and could see themselves a Polaris Music Prize nominee later this year.
