"We have amicably parted ways with both Rick Rubin and Columbia," the band said in an official statement. According to the Daily Express, insiders suggest the band had grown restless waiting for Rubin to complete other projects, including Kid Rock's new album.
Back in 2009, Crosby told Spinner that the band had been working on songs like James Taylor's 'You Can Close Your Eyes,' the Grateful Dead's 'Uncle John's Band' and Bob Dylan's 'Lady of the North Country.'
"Those are the ones that felt good," Crosby said at the time. "We try them out and it's like putting on a shoe -- if it seems to fit, then you wear it."
Crosby also told Spinner that Rubin "is not your average bear" adding, "We write down a list of songs we think are potentials, learn them, make up our version, and sing them for him. He'll like maybe one out of eight, so we go back to the drawing board and learn another eight or 10. It's a very slow process."
Evidently too slow.
