Daryl Hall Welcomes Rob Thomas, Smokey Robinson to New Year's Eve Special

Daryl Hall's web show, 'Live from Daryl's House,' will end a successful year with a special New Year's Eve broadcast on Chicago TV station WGN America. 'Live from Daryl's House, A New Year's Eve Special' will air from 11PM to 1AM EST on Dec. 31, and will contain highlights from the Webby-award winning series.

Included are performances from Rob Thomas, Neon Trees, Train, Smokey Robinson, Todd Rundgren,Sharon Jones, Eli Reed, Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump, Jose Feliciano, who is featured in 'Live at Daryl's' current holiday show, and, of course, Hall's longtime musical partner, John Oates. According to Hall, the diversity of musicians that the show has brought into his upstate New York barn is an essential ingredient.

"That's part of my concept, to interact with lots of different musicians and a wide age range too," Hall tells Spinner. "To have someone like Parachute, who are like 20 years old, and to have that puppy dog eagerness mixed in with my band's experience and see what happens, it's a constant surprise to me as well as the audience."

The show has brought an edginess to Hall's celebrated career that he says is invigorating. "I thrive on it," the "Kiss On My List' admits. "I think I was born to do this sort of show. What I like about making music like this is spontaneity. Thinking on your feet, you never know what's going to happen."

The edgy factor might surprise people who think of Hall & Oates simply as a mainstream '80s pop duo. "It probably surprised a lot of people, the reality of what I am," he
