Sufjan Stevens-Inspired Ballet Coming to New York
If full-album concerts were the hot trend in recent years, perhaps indie-rock ballet is going to be the next big thing. As Pitchfork reports, Sufjan Stevens will join the Shins in having his music turned into a choreographed production.
In Stevens' case, the performance will use the music of 'Run Rabbit Run,' a revamped version of his 'Enjoy Your Rabbit' album as performed by the Osso String Quartet. "The choreography I have been developing is wholly inspired by Sufjan's music, which acts as sort of a blueprint to build the movement off of," choreographer Justin Peck told Pitchfork.
Stevens and his label, Asthmatic Kitty, granted the choreographer all the rights to use the music, and now fans can see the show as part of the New York City Choreographic Institute's 10th anniversary celebration. The performances take place on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 at Columbia University's Miller Theatre, and ticket are available through the theatre's website.
