On the heels of recent supergroups like Monsters of Folk and Them Crooked Vultures, Ben Harper has unveiled plans for his very own initiative, Fistful of Mercy, which will make its radio and concert debuts Thursday, Aug. 26. Joined by singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur and Dhani Harrison -- the son of late Beatles guitarist George Harrison -- the trio will perform live on KCRW at 11AM PT before the band makes its live debut tonight at Seattle's WS Easy Street record store.

According to TwentyFourBit, the news leaked late Wednesday when a brief announcement made its way to sites like Flavorwire and Antiquiet. According to the latter, the group is expected to release an album on Oct. 5 and tour in support of the as-yet-untitled effort.

After several shows with Ringo Starr, workaholic Harper is also keeping busy with a trio of shows with his backing band, Relentless7, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wa., over Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 3-5), before moving along to play a headlining slot at the Life Is Good festival in Canton, Mass., on Sept. 11.
