Sir Elton John Watches Scissor Sisters Perform in London
Sir Elton John watched Scissor Sisters open the iTunes festival at Camden's Roundhouse on Thursday night, July 1, as the band kick-started the festival in typically camp fashion.
The band, who released their third album 'Night Work' this week, performed tracks from across their back catalogue, including 'Kiss You Off,' 'Take Your Mama' and 'Laura.'
Entering the Roundhouse minutes before the band took to the stage, Sir Elton watched on as the band dedicated their song 'I Don't Feel Like Dancing' to him. Lead singer Jake Shears wrote the song with Sir Elton in 2006 and introduced the track by saying, "We're about to play a real sweet song for a dear friend of ours who is here tonight."
Another pop icon who was also in attendance as sat on the opposite side of the Roundhouse was Boy George. Known to be a big fan of the Drums, he watched on as the New York band opened up for Scissor Sisters. The four piece were joined on stage by Scissor Sisters' own Ana Matronic at one point before ending their set with the rousing 'Let's Go Surfing.'
Much of the Scissor Sisters show relied heavily on new album 'Night Work,' with the band running through 10 new tracks. Highlights of the new material included 'Any Which Way,' 'Invisible Light' and the rapturously received new single, 'Fire With Fire.'
The set ended in outrageous style with Shears stripping down to his underwear for a sweaty rendition of 'Filthy/ Gorgeous.'
The iTunes festival continues at Camden's Roundhouse throughout July with future performances due from Florence and the Machine, the National, Underworld, Foals, Ellie Goulding and many more.
