Grizzly Bear Team With Mike McDonald for B-Side
NYC indie-art rockers Grizzly Bear are storing some pretty serious contacts in their cellphones these days. First, Jay-Z and Beyonce turn up at the four-piece's Brooklyn waterfront concert over the weekend, and when we say turn up we mean the couple actually headbanged to the music. Today finds former Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers band member Michael McDonald extending his gruff howl on 'Veckatimest''s most pop-friendly track.
The classic rock veteran shows up on the B-side to the Bear's latest single, 'While You Wait for the Others,' with his own rendition of the song. Grizzly Bear still provide their trademark oooh-aaah harmonies on the McDonald version, but McDonald's deep voice surprisingly fits in well with the tune, giving potential to winning a top spot on our favorite covers of the year list, if we had one. Both the single and McDonald's cover are currently available via iTunes for a cheap combined total of $1.98. You can also purchase the 7" on the Grizzly Bear website, but it'll cost you more.
