Sheryl Crow in War of Words With Karl Rove

April 23rd 2007 3:00PM

Sheryl Crow and Laurie David (producer of 'An Inconvenient Truth') heated up the White House Correspondents' dinner last Saturday night. The annual event includes politicians, the reporters they loathe and the celebrities they're trying to impress -- a guest list that's fairly inexplicable. (Case in point: 'American Idol' hair-raiser Sanjaya was there. Um ... why?) The event is typically light-hearted, but Crow and David used the opportunity to confront Senior White House Advisor Karl Rove about what the administration is doing to combat global warming. That confrontation quickly turned combative.

''I am floored by what I just experienced with Karl Rove,'' David told reporters. ''I went over to him and said, 'I urge you to take a new look at global warming.' He went zero to 100 with me. I've never had anyone be so rude.''

David went on to say that Rove responded with illogical arguments, acting "like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum," and then dismissed the two ladies. (Read more of David's side of the story here.)

As Rove walked way, Crow reportedly said to him, "You can't speak to us like that ... You work for us." To which he responded, "I don't work for you, I work for the American people."

Nice comeback. Maybe he thought Crow was Canadian? Rove defended himself to reporters, saying that David "came over to insult me and she succeeded.''

Crow and David are meeting with Congressional leaders today to discuss global warming as part of their cross-country tour to raise awareness. No word on whether Rove will attend.
