A funny thing happened the day before Katy Perry met future hubby Russell Brand at the 2009 MTV VMAs. According to LOOK magazine, the Teenage Dream singer went on a date with John Mayer, who she's apparently snuggled up to since splitting with Brand last year.
"A couple of friends had set Katy and John up on this date," a source told the magazine, according to Contact Music. "They had an amazing time and were planning to do it again. Then she went to the VMAs and fell head over heels for Russell. But it must have always felt like unfinished business with her and John, and they'd occasionally text each other while she was with Russell."
Perry and Brand finalized their divorce earlier this summer, and according to the LOOK taddler, Mayer told the pop superstar he could "cure" her of her broken heart. The lothario guitarist is looking to settle down and get married, friends insist, and he thinks the "California Gurls" hitmaker could be Ms. Right.
"He was clearly on a mission to get her to fall for him and it worked," the insider said, adding that Perry has fallen for Mayer "hook, line and sinker."
