Katy Perry and Russell Brand's divorce became official earlier this month, and now the actor/comedian is becoming more vocal about what was behind their split. In an interview with Howard Stern, Brand said there was no lack of love between him and Katy, but they went their separate ways for "practical reasons."
When asked about their whirlwind romance -- that saw the couple get engaged after just two months of dating, and say their "I do"s mere months later -- Russell revealed, "I loved her so much, [getting married] just seemed like the sensible thing to do." Unfortunately the marriage was not as sensible as Brand might have hoped.
"I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other ... it mostly didn't work for practical reasons," he admitted, citing Katy's busy work schedule as a major factor in the split. "She's young, successful and dedicated. You can't fully understand [marriage] until you do it."
The long-distance relationship also made it difficult to start a family, which Russell admitted he was eager to do. "I was really into the idea of marriage and having children." Russell went on to admit that he and Perry had discussed having kids together, but when Stern pressed for more details, Brand was careful not to divulge too much. The 37-year-old did, however, point out his and Katy's 10-year age difference. "She's younger than me. She's a young woman," he said.
